Because we are an association of Christians, ACMS membership is open to all interested persons who are in agreement that:
Those who wish to join our organization may read more at Join the ACMS.
In addition to our statement of belief, you may be interested in knowing the purposes of the ACMS. Those purposes are as follows:
As the "Purposes" indicate, exploration and communication about the relationship of their faith to the mathematical sciences is a central theme of the ACMS. The ACMS accomplishes this mission primarily through the biennial conferences and the journal. Here below are a few other past and current projects that support the purpose of the ACMS.
Books
Mathematics in a Postmodern Age - Edited by Jim Bradley and Russell Howell, members of the ACMS, this book explores the nature, historical development and cultural impact of mathematics from a Christian perspective.
Editorial review: The discipline of mathematics has not been spared the sweeping critique of postmodernism. Is mathematical theory true for all time, or are mathematical constructs in fact fallible? This fascinating book examines the tensions that have arisen between modern and postmodern views of mathematics, explores alternative theories of mathematical truth, explains why the issues are important, and shows how a Christian perspective makes a difference.
Bibliography
Bibliography of Christianity and Mathematics: 1910-1983 - Created by Gene Chase and Calvin Jongsma, members of the ACMS, this bibliography is a sponsored activity of the ACMS. The bibliography is quite extensive, so you may wish to refer to the index to this bibliography.
Mathematical Devotions
The ACMS website welcomes contributions by members of devotional content that is of interest to other members. Here are some contributions.
Workshops
As a follow-up to the successful Mathematics in a Postmodern Age, Jim Bradley and Russell Howell organized a writing workshop during the 2009 ACMS conference. Two proposed projects emerged from this:
Both projects are now underway. Stay tuned for upcoming developments with both of these projects.
In 2003, the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) sponsored a workshop at Westmont College on integrating faith with mathematics and computer science. Projects completed by participants are located on the conference website.
