The University of Sioux Falls invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.  Professorial rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience. Appointment will begin fall semester 2008.

                                                                                               

 

QUALIFICATIONS:         Candidates must possess an advanced degree in mathematics, mathematics education, statistics, or a related field.  (An earned doctorate is strongly preferred, and is required for tenure.) Superior teaching, desire to engage in undergraduate student research, interest in teaching courses in the general education curriculum, and a heart for mentorship are highly valued.  Interest in teaching an introductory course outside of mathematics (e.g., computer literacy, physics, astronomy, or the interdisciplinary Western Heritage course) is welcomed.  Applicants will be considered in all areas of mathematics, with preference given to those with expertise in mathematics education, statistics, or interdisciplinary applications of mathematics.  Successful candidates should be committed to academic excellence in a liberal arts environment and to the integration of faith and learning.

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES       This is a full-time, tenure-track position.  Typical teaching load is four courses per semester, plus one course during Interim.  This faculty member will be expected to teach upper-division and service courses in mathematics commensurate with the candidate’s background, coordinate the student tutoring program, maintain professional scholarship, advise students, and participate in the life of the university and community. 

 

LOCATION                    The University of Sioux Falls, founded in 1883, is a Christian, liberal arts University of over 1,600 students (including non-traditional and graduate programs).  Affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, USA, the University is a member of both the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities and the Council of Independent Colleges. The University of Sioux Falls is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association; the Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); the Education program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE); and the Business program is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education. The University offers a demanding liberal arts education in 29 fields of study as well as master’s degrees in education and business administration.

 

                                       Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the largest city in the state at just over 140,000 people, is an attractive, progressive community and is one of the fastest growing financial centers in the nation. There are excellent public and private schools, a symphony orchestra, a community playhouse, and other programs in the arts. There are three major hospitals, over thirty parks with soccer, softball, and baseball fields, swimming pools, and a bike trail that surrounds the city. Sioux Falls enjoys a low crime rate, low unemployment, no state or local income tax, and many nearby opportunities for camping, boating, fishing, hunting, and other year-round recreational activities. Located at the junction of Interstates 29 and 90, Sioux Falls is the hub of regional transportation, culture, entertainment, commerce, medicine, and shopping.
