Mathematics Faculty Position Announcement

 

                                   

Position:

Faculty position in Mathematics to begin August 2008

 

Qualifications:

§         Ph.D. in statistics or mathematics, emphasis in probability/mathematical statistics preferred

§         record of strong teaching experience (may include graduate teaching assistantship)

§         strong interpersonal skills and work ethic

§         commitment to scholarly work with active research component adaptable to undergraduate participation

§         commitment to the mission, vision and values of Southern Nazarene University

Responsibilities:

Teaching Calculus, Mathematical Statistics, various upper-level math courses which could include Discrete Mathematics, Linear Algebra or Analysis, as well as general education courses.  Additional duties will include advising students; supervising senior research projects; participating in assigned committees and other responsibilities in the Department of Mathematics, the Division of Science and Mathematics and the University.

 

Rank and Salary:

Open to all ranks.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. An excellent benefit package is included.

 

The Department of Mathematics:

The Department of Mathematics offers a major in Mathematics with three areas of preparation: secondary teaching, graduate school, and Actuary/industry.  The department has three full-time faculty and 20-30 majors.  Current faculty actively explore multiple teaching and assessment methods, which include incorporating technology in the classroom and laboratory assignments.  All students are equipped with laptops and have access to a campus-wide wireless network.  The department shares a close relationship with the other science departments, producing a significant number of students who double major with Computer Science or Physics.  Mathematics education majors have had a 100% success rate on state certification exams in math over the past 16 years.
