The Department of Mathematics at Olivet Nazarene University invites applications for a full-time faculty position to begin in the 2008-09 academic year

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.       Primary responsibilities include teaching approximately12 semester hours per semester. Courses taught will be undergraduate mathematics courses, will range from liberal arts level classes to junior and senior level courses for majors, and will be dependent on the candidate’s area of expertise.

2.       Perform typical departmental and institutional duties including: committee work, attending department and faculty meetings, and participate in departmental activities.

3.       Providing a positive professional model to students, mentoring students, and student academic advising.

4.      Maintain a program of professional activities.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.       Ph.D. (or near completion) in mathematics or a related field. Candidates with a Masters degree in a mathematics field and strong teaching credentials would be considered.

2.        Candidates must have a strong commitment to the values and lifestyle of evangelical Christianity and profess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. 

3.       The department seeks candidates who demonstrate strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting and exhibit a commitment to continual professional development.

 

THE DEPARTMENT

 

The Department of Mathematics is located in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department offers both the BA and BS degrees in mathematics along with a BS in mathematics teaching. A current proposal would also add a BS in actuarial science.  Minors are also offered in both mathematics and mathematics teaching.

 

THE UNIVERSITY

 

Olivet Nazarene University is a fully accredited Christian university sponsored by the Church of the Nazarene. Located in Bourbonnais Illinois, approximately 50 miles south of Chicago the school serves approximately 2600 undergraduates along with 2000 graduate students. Over 100 fields of study are offered by the four Schools and one College that make up the University.
